Already 20 years old

During the summer of 1993, two young entrepreneurs, Pierre Jobidon and Guy Gilbert, laid everything on the line and founded Distribution Sports Loisirs G.P. Inc., a company specializing in the distribution of institutional sports equipment. They both already worked in the area, and saw an opportunity for developing a firm in their own image, meaning a company focusing on customer service. Taking advantage of their connections and experience, the two founders saw their company grow at a steady pace over the first four years.

In 1997 a new business opportunity was the catalyst in the birth of a second company: Distribution Couvre-Planchers Elite Inc. At the time, the sports flooring manufacturer Mondo was looking for a distributor or agency that could represent it in Eastern Québec. Guy and Pierre decided to take the plunge, since they could envisage a synergy potential with their sports-equipment distribution activities. Over the years, Distribution Couvre-Planchers Elite diversified, notably in the commercial sector, securing exclusive distribution rights for the Centiva, Lifeline CS and PG brands, and most recently Belletile.

Early in the 2000s the firm gradually developed a new niche, specializing additionally in the installation of sports equipment. Aware of the vacuum that existed in Québec in that area, the company decided to fill it by creating an installation-construction department. Contracts came in steadily, necessitating the creation of a third incorporation devoted specifically to that area, namely DSL Installation. Today that firm is associated with the majority of sports infrastructure projects in Québec, where it is recognized as the leader in the domain.

The year 2005 was another turning point in the company’s history. The acquisition of DHS Sports, a distributor of institutional sports equipment in Montreal, led to a significant growth in sales figures and to Distribution Sports Loisirs’ status as a key player in the field in Québec.

Mr. Jobidon decided to reorient his career in 2008, and Guy Gilbert is today the sole owner of the three firms that make up Groupe Distribution Sports Loisirs. The group’s team of employees is unquestionably one of the most experienced in its field in Québec, and constitutes one of the principal reasons for the success that the company has enjoyed over the years.

In 2013, for its 20th anniversary, Distribution Sports Loisirs inaugurated new, more effectively fitted out premises, with the goal of continuing to serve you better. We’re waiting for your call…
